Let’s go thrifting!

Last night, as I was packing (way ahead) for the weekend, I went through this phase, that I know we all go through, that I didn’t really have anything exciting to wear.  I feel like all I have is the same old clothing and that my outfit’s are drab and boring.  So, I decided that I would go shopping today.  I absolutely love to shop, but I hate spending money, especially since I am saving up to move out!  I usually come home empty-handed and bummed.  Today was a different story!

I live in a fairly small town, with the most disappointing mall in the history of all malls.  We’re talking…two clothing stores in the entire mall, it’s so barren.  My first stop was at Maurices.  I have a card that the cashier punches and once you get all the punches, you get $10 off.  I was ready to use my card but after trying on a few different garments, I hadn’t been pleased and left the store…empty-handed.  Then I went to JCPenney(the other store in our mall) and tried on numerous amounts of tops, all of which didn’t fit quite right, or were too expensive!  Finally, I decided to head to Goodwill.  Growing up, my mom would take me to Goodwill and I would groan because I didn’t want hand-me-down clothing.  Let me tell you what…that mind-set has CHANGED!  I found so many things I liked that I had to use a cart.  Of course, when you go thrifting, there are a few key things to watch out for.

  1. Make sure the clothing does not have any holes. (armpits, crotch)
  2. Make sure the shirts don’t have sweat stains!
  3. Thoroughly check to see if there are any other hidden stains. (food, blood)
  4. If the clothing has an odd smell, or smells like smoke, don’t buy it. (even after washing, it might still stink)

I bought two pairs of jeans and seven tops.  I used a $10 off punch card that my mom had for Goodwill, so my grand total was only $23 and some odd cents!  I felt zero guilt, and I now have the start of a new summer wardrobe!  I thanked God for allowing me to find items I liked and that I was able to save money in the process!

The skinny jeans I am wearing were only $5, and they are from forever 21. (no wonder I love them)

All of the tops were $3!

I did get another pair of jeans & a black sleeveless sweater.

Until next time, save money & go THRIFT instead!

God is the artist, we are His masterpiece

Prep yourselves for a long post…but really, it’s mainly pictures, who doesn’t like pictures?

Yesterday my body was on a picket fence protest.  My wrist, knees, and elbows were sore, which led me to the conclusion that I experienced a minor flare up.  I say minor because today I’m feeling 85% better.  It’s a bit hard to tell, but, I took some photos and wanted to share with you how I was unable to straighten my arm, due to swollen and sore elbows.  I took comparison photos of my mother’s arm so you can tell the difference.  Don’t mind the cheesy grins, it’s better than an awkward straight-faced photo.

So, instead of having a “woe is me” attitude, which I sometimes admit to having, I decided that I was going to have a “RAain’tgotnothingonme” attitude.  I treated myself to a tasty lunch, pictured below.  I highly recommend the sandwich, it IS my new favorite.  The meal consisted of: a toasted burger bun, brown sugar ham with a slice of Muenster cheese, H.K. Anderson brand honey wheat pretzels, and a slice of fresh pineapple.  I have a new obsession with fresh pineapple, it is better than candy.

After lunch, mom and I went for a walk at the park.  I decided to bring my camera to take some fun nature shots since I don’t use my camera all that often.  Enjoy!

Until next time, tell me what your favorite photo was and why!

Rays of sunshine

The motivation I referred to in the previous post hasn’t worn away!  I’ve been doing multiple exercises throughout the day and I can honestly say I feel great, minus being sore.  Not a RA kind of sore, but an “I just used muscles that haven’t been used like this sore”.  Sore is good though when it comes to getting fit.  My RA is hardly bothering me at all.  I believe it’s a combination of nice consistent weather, eating smaller and healthier portions, working out, and taking walks.  WHY haven’t I done this sooner?! -oh that’s right…it was cold out.  Once it becomes nice out it is much easier to feel motivated to accomplish such tasks.

I took a walk again today at the park and took some photos.  It’s always interesting to “people watch” when you are out in public.  A few people I noticed were an elderly couple on a motorcycle-super cute, a dad walking with his daughter while she drove around her barbie car, a lady tanning/reading, and a lady scolding her dog because it wouldn’t drop the ball.

Hopefully this abnormally warm weather sticks around!  I’ve really learned to appreciate sunny days and am learning to love exercising.  I really need to take proper care of my body, especially since my immune system is fighting against my joints.

Until next time, keep taking advantage of beautiful days.
