Tea for two

The top images are from a month or so ago, when Braden was in the nursery during church.  Jackie(one of my sister’s) and I had nursery duty and I snapped a few photos of Braden’s curiosity towards the tea set.  The bottom picture is from a few week’s ago when our new fridge was delivered.  Braden jumped right in and insisted on “helping”.  Hope you enjoyed your weekly Braden dose 🙂

Through my eyes

Well, I had another excellent day at work!  For those of you who are new, I work as Secretary at my church.  To my misfortune, I had the bright idea of changing the church signs this afternoon, which are located outside… P.S. the winds are crazy today.  Thankfully I didn’t lose any letters, but, the plexiglass window that covers the sign did bonk my head pretty hard and tried to close me in.  So glad no one drove by when that happened!  Below is a picture of my “nourishment” for the day.

Oh the weather outside is delightful!  I took advantage of this 65 degree sunny but windy day and took a walk with my mother.  Walking is such a simple and enjoyable form of exercise, especially for those with RA.  Too bad my ankle is protesting the walk.  My right elbow was also retaining some fluid this morning, but after using it to change the sign, the pain lessened!

TMNT!

Our first “reward” came in the mail!  My parents decided to use some rewards points that they earned by using their credit card, and mom chose this beautiful Crosley 5 in 1 entertainment center.

Until next time, keep walking!

Be willing to accept whatever is thrown your way

Another weekend flew by, but I had such a wonderful time spending it with Matt and his family!  Matt is actually leaving this Saturday for a mission trip in Jamaica!!  I’m incredibly proud of him and wish I were joining him!  On Friday night, I helped Matt sort through plenty of old clothes and memorable items that have been stashed away in his room since high school.  At first it seemed like it would take hours, but we had a lot of fun rehashing his past.  I even got a few shirts out of it!  On Sunday, we met up with more of his family to celebrate his grandmother’s birthday, and found ourselves playing “Mexican train”- it’s a fun game that involves dominoes.  I managed to win a few games!  Of course, it was extremely hard saying goodbye, as it will be 16 days until I get to see him again.  I give props to military girlfriends and wives, for they must wait much longer!

My RA seems to be flaring up a tad bit over the past few days.  I haven’t been very disciplined as far as eating sweets is concerned, but when you celebrate two birthdays, it’s nearly impossible to not indulge in cake.  My mother’s birthday was March 3rd.  Happy Birthday Momma!  Ironically, I ate carrot cake two days in a row.  Both times, I enjoyed every little bit.  I was convinced my knee was going to be swollen again, as it seemed to show signs of holding fluid on Saturday and Sunday.  Praise God it went back down, cause I sure dislike feeling icky.  My wrist however, the one that is practically bone on bone, is giving me some problems.  Last night as I was getting into the car, my wrist got caught on the door and it bent forward, causing instant pain and I must admit I got a tad angry-not fun because I am almost always joyful and happy.  Again, today as I was getting into my dad’s truck, I had to push the seat back and somehow my wrist bent and I felt completely weakened.  Poor wrist!  I suppose I must take extra precautions to be careful.  I sure do feel blessed though, even after dealing with RA pains, because I am quick to remember those who are less fortunate than I.

I know I have RA for a reason, though I am still learning what that reason is.  Perhaps it’s to educate or uplift someone who needs to hear it.  Perhaps it will strengthen me mentally.  Whatever the reason, I am willing to accept it, with a joyful heart.

Until next time, keep eating carrot cake!

1st Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Always be joyful.  Keep on praying.  No matter what happens, always be thankful, for that is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

The little listener

A few weeks back, I noticed a container full of fun play necklaces sitting in the basement.  So, I decided to put them on Braden and in return teach him how to put them on me.  Now, every time he goes into the basement to play, he always points to the container and we go through each necklace and he will put one on me, then one on himself.  It’s amazing how he remembers little details.  (Braden is my nephew).  This past week, he had the entire “little people” and “tonka trunks” scattered on the ground and my dad told Braden that we had to put some of them away.  Braden understood the request as putting ALL the toys away.  After putting the toys into the bin, he picked up the tonka trunks-which are quite heavy, and carried them into the room and proceeded to lift them and put them away by himself.  We didn’t even tell him to do that.  It was heart melting watching him do such a simple task.  He’s such a good listener and cleaner-upper.

One last story.  Thursday evening I wasn’t feeling all that well, so mom was rubbing my back.  Then Braden walked over and started copying my mom by rubbing my back too.  Can he get any cuter!?
