Prep yourselves for a long post…but really, it’s mainly pictures, who doesn’t like pictures?

Yesterday my body was on a picket fence protest.  My wrist, knees, and elbows were sore, which led me to the conclusion that I experienced a minor flare up.  I say minor because today I’m feeling 85% better.  It’s a bit hard to tell, but, I took some photos and wanted to share with you how I was unable to straighten my arm, due to swollen and sore elbows.  I took comparison photos of my mother’s arm so you can tell the difference.  Don’t mind the cheesy grins, it’s better than an awkward straight-faced photo.

So, instead of having a “woe is me” attitude, which I sometimes admit to having, I decided that I was going to have a “RAain’tgotnothingonme” attitude.  I treated myself to a tasty lunch, pictured below.  I highly recommend the sandwich, it IS my new favorite.  The meal consisted of: a toasted burger bun, brown sugar ham with a slice of Muenster cheese, H.K. Anderson brand honey wheat pretzels, and a slice of fresh pineapple.  I have a new obsession with fresh pineapple, it is better than candy.

After lunch, mom and I went for a walk at the park.  I decided to bring my camera to take some fun nature shots since I don’t use my camera all that often.  Enjoy!

My first award: The Liebster Blog award

Yesterday, I wrote a post about not feeling well due to a flare up from my rheumatoid arthritis.  This morning, as I was still groggy from waking up, I routinely checked my blog and found that I had been nominated to receive this award.  I don’t know much about it, but it certainly was a grand way to start my day!

“The Liebster Blog Award” is an award passed on to new and skilled bloggers by other bloggers.

My nomination was given by : http://sarahsfoodieblog.wordpress.com/   I truly appreciate and want to thank Sarah for choosing me as one of the five bloggers she had to nominate.  Her and I both suffer from RA, so it has been wonderful to chat with her and learn how she copes with it.  Also, I enjoy her blog because she is constantly trying out new recipes, which I will eventually have to do myself.

1. http://collegegirlcooking.wordpress.com/ Jamie and I actually attended high school together, but I didn’t know her personally, or the fact that she suffered from an eating disorder.  Although Jamie is not new to blogging, I highly recommend her blog as she is on a journey to love and accept her body.  She also shares many wonderful recipes that are healthy and yummy.

2. http://jennyandtyler.wordpress.com/  Jenny and Tyler are two VERY talented and humble musicians who are happily married.  I promise you, I love their music so much that some of their music will be played at my wedding-it’s just so cute!  I chose to nominate them because I support their music and want to share it with as many people as possible.  Their love for God shines through the music they write, which is inspiring and encouraging.

3. http://williamkent.wordpress.com/ This blogger posts some of the neatest videos I have ever seen.  I enjoy following along with his blog because he always finds a variety of videos.  My favorite video from his blog thus far is: http://williamkent.wordpress.com/2012/02/07/naturesvinyl/ – this is a video that takes the idea of a record player but uses a tree stump and is able to read the tree rings which in return interprets them into music. This is done by a camera with a light that reads the rings of each tree trunk cross-section- check it out!

4.http://photobotos.com/ I am nominating this blogger not because they are new, but because of how supportive they have been of my blog.  They have actually been featured on the main wordpress site.  This is my way of saying thank you to them!  Their blog features many gorgeous and breath-taking photography that is a must see.

5. http://whitneyhayes.wordpress.com/ I know Whitney personally, and she is a great friend of mine.  She blogs about her personal daily walk with God and shares different stories and lessons she has learned through experience and through reading.  Whitney is a very kind girl who is very good at expressing her thoughts and feelings through blogging.

R & R

The past three days have not been all that great.  The temperatures are falling, therefore my pain has increased.

It’s important to remember that with rheumatoid arthritis, you NEED to rest and relax.  I’ve been quite busy so I haven’t had much ME time.  I haven’t been able to workout and walk like I had been when it was in the 70s and 80s.  I am finding myself mentally and physically drained at times throughout the day, but I must keep moving.  I watched my nephew Braden with my sister from about 4-6, then from 7-9:30 I watched my cousin.  Tomorrow I am making sure that I get a workout in, maybe even a walk, considering it’s supposed to jump back up to 70 degrees tomorrow.

I am interested to see if many other arthritis sufferers truly notice a difference when the weather changes.  I honestly just do not feel good.  My wrist was bothering me an exceptional amount on Sunday.  It was rather pathetic, but I insisted on not taking any tylenol.  I am quite stubborn when it comes to taking pain relievers/reducers because I am already taking plaquenil and folic acid, not to mention methotrexate as well on Sundays.  Also, my headaches have returned though I can probably peg those to allergies or sinuses.

Also, do any of you know of family members, friends, or perhaps yourself, who have benefited from living in a warmer area, that has much more consistent temperatures?  I have heard stories of people who suffer from arthritis in a cooler and rainy environment who actually feel much better if they move to a warm area.  Not that I can or want to move out of Ohio, but it is something I should consider for the future.

On a much brighter note, I had an incredible weekend!  I visited Matt in Columbus and had such a great time hanging out with friends who I am getting to know better each time I visit.  Matt and I were able to go on a date to Chipotle and then we went shopping which can always brighten my mood.  I am very thankful that Matt is a helpful shopper.  Instead of dragging through forever 21 with me, I would ask him his opinion on some of the pieces I liked and he let me know whether or not I should get them.

I’m looking forward to a better tomorrow, and attempting to keep a positive attitude.

Family art

After a long streak of great days, I guess it was time for a sore day.  It’s nearly impossible to have a bad day though when it’s over 80 degrees outside!  My elbow was quite tender this morning, it seemed like some fluid was building up on it.  My right wrist has also been giving me some troubles today as well.  However, while getting my oil changed at Walmart, I “accidentally” went on a shopping spree and bought more than I had intended.  Shopping always makes a day much better!  I’m still working out, though this week has been jammed pack full of things to do so I haven’t had a really good workout since Sunday.  Sunday I went for a long walk at the park and actually jogged half a mile…which is good for me since I strongly dislike jogging.  I am noticing subtle results, as it’s still to early too see much of a change in my stomach.  I definitely feel tighter though, which is a huge plus.

Ted designed this for the nephew of his friend who passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident.  Jacob, the nephew, has cystic fibrosis and really looked up to his uncle.  Jacob also really likes mega man, so my brother designed him his own character.  Ted’s websites, http://disteldesign.com/ and http://distelphotography.com/.

Naps and cellphones

Braden does not often say much while we babysit him other than “baby talk”.  But, while him and I were playing with some hot wheels cars, I kept saying, “beep beep”, and finally he caught on. So, now when he plays with cars he says, “beep beep”!

The bottom picture is Braden talking on his cellphone.  Braden’s Grandpa Botton had an old cellphone and let him have it.  We’re talking…wire pulls out, bulky, old phone.  It’s super cute because Braden will just sit there and pretend like he’s talking with someone.

Rays of sunshine

The motivation I referred to in the previous post hasn’t worn away!  I’ve been doing multiple exercises throughout the day and I can honestly say I feel great, minus being sore.  Not a RA kind of sore, but an “I just used muscles that haven’t been used like this sore”.  Sore is good though when it comes to getting fit.  My RA is hardly bothering me at all.  I believe it’s a combination of nice consistent weather, eating smaller and healthier portions, working out, and taking walks.  WHY haven’t I done this sooner?! -oh that’s right…it was cold out.  Once it becomes nice out it is much easier to feel motivated to accomplish such tasks.

I took a walk again today at the park and took some photos.  It’s always interesting to “people watch” when you are out in public.  A few people I noticed were an elderly couple on a motorcycle-super cute, a dad walking with his daughter while she drove around her barbie car, a lady tanning/reading, and a lady scolding her dog because it wouldn’t drop the ball.

Hopefully this abnormally warm weather sticks around!  I’ve really learned to appreciate sunny days and am learning to love exercising.  I really need to take proper care of my body, especially since my immune system is fighting against my joints.

The attempt to keep busy

Considering that Matt (my boyfriend) is in Jamaica for a mission’s trip, I’ve decided that unless I keep busy, I’m going to be moping around the house wishing I were with him.  Starting today, I’m not quite sure what has gotten into me but I’ve decided to start working out…again.  I go through spurts where I feel extremely motivated and ready to conquer the sit-up.  That feeling lasts for about four days and then I end up finding much more “fun” things to do instead of working out.  Normally after work, the fatigue that tag teams with my RA gets the best of me and I find myself napping on the couch.  Today, instead of that precious nap, I decided to get out the exercise ball and do some crunches.  Afterwards, I had the bright idea to ask my sister to join me in a dance workout-much more fun that working out by yourself, plus I love dancing!

We began the workout with the ever-so-classic “Sandstorm” by darude.  Then we had some nostalgia while dancing to MJ’s “The way you make me feel”, because for a while we had the Wii dancing game and we eventually got 5 stars on every song!  Lastly, we finished up the 15 minute workout with “Hey Ya” by Outkast.  We had a lot of fun and were definitely worn-out.

After that, I took a break and started “pinteresting” some ab workout ideas.  Of course that piled onto my already motivated self and I continued to do more ab exercises with the exercise ball.  Sometimes with RA, it’s extremely hard to stick with exercising because you normally don’t feel so great as it is, then to add sore muscles and worked joints on top of that equals a very miserable person.  However, today besides my right wrist, I have been feeling pretty good!  So, I took advantage of that and I believe that is truly why I was able to get such a long workout in.  Hopefully tomorrow I don’t regret all of this, and that I am not limping around.  Do me a favor and keep me accountable.  Ask me how my workout is going, that way the motivation I feel continues more than just four little days.  Thanks in advance!  Question for you: What motivates you to get fit?
